With a history of 350 years, this circular landscape garden with artificial hills and ponds typifies Edo period (1603-1867) gardens, and is designated as a special scenic spot containing special historic relics. The residence was extensively used by the family of the Tokugawa Shogun, and as a detached palace by the Meiji Imperial family. With a total land area of some 25ha, the park also features a sea-water pond, and a 300 year old tree (purportedly planted by the Shogun). Highly recommended!
