Specialties Introduction | Local Food and Local Specialties | Tokyo's Specialties Associations

Among the rich variety of specialties unique to Tokyo are tsukudani (food boiled in soy sauce), pickles and miso, all of which are essential elements of Japanese cuisine, as well as green tea from Sayama. In addition, Tokyo is famous for a variety of textiles, from hand-woven silks that offer a touch of pure Japanese style, including Murayama-Oshima pongee silk and yukata materials to machine-woven items including knits, neckties, hats and socks. Other noted products are furniture and toys. All of these items represent a continuing tradition, passed on from generation to generation, with an attention to detail that is truly Japanese.
