Climate Clothes and Personal items

Clothes

As the four seasons are very clearly defined, it is necessary to prepare clothes appropriate for each season. Depending on the places visited the manner of dress varies. It is not advisable to go to a first-class hotel, a theater or a restaurant wearing very casual clothing (e.g. a T-shirt, shorts, and sandals). It is desirable for men to wear a shirt with a collar, and if needed to be, a jacket. Women should also be dressed in accordance with time, place, and occasion.

(March-May)
In early spring, there are days cold enough to require a heavy coat. But in May, it gets so warm that short-sleeves are best in the daytime. Spring is a time when the weather is changeable and the temperature fluctuates very much. It is necessary, therefore, to have jackets ready at all times.

(June-August)
Short-sleeves, or even sleeveless shirts, with sandals may be worn all day long. It may be necessary, however, to carry a light cover-up when you go out, just in case you go into air-conditioned buildings or facilities. It may be advisable to carry a parasol to prevent sunburn.

(September-November)
Throughout September short-sleeved shirts and sandals may be worn. But from October onward, when the temperature starts falling in the morning and evening, a jacket will be necessary. However, a heavy coat will not be necessary and there are still quite a few days when shirtsleeves are still comfortable during the day. In November, something like a light wool sweater will be needed.

(December-February)
As it gets quite chilly in the morning and evening, a thick coat will be needed even during the daytime. Furthermore, a scarf, gloves, and pocket warmers will be useful to keep one warm outdoors.
