At first purchase, you need charge fee 1,500 yen + deposit fee 500 yen (returned at cancellation)
You don't have to take the card out of the pass holder, but scan it along the card reader located on the top of the ticket gate. If the balance runs short, you simply take it to any JR station and charge it for more usage.
Suica can also be used in the PASMO service areas.
A new chargeable ticket system that can be used for train/bus services by participating private railways, subways and bus networks (with some exceptions).
By touching the charged PASMO card to a scanner on the top of ticket gate (no need to take the card out from a pass holder), an appropriate fare is automatically deducted from the card.
You may purchase a PASMO card with an automatic charging service with which 3,000 yen is automatically topped up on your card at the ticket gate every time the balance of your card goes below 2,000 yen. A 500 yen deposit is required. The card can be purchased at stations and sales offices of participating train/bus companies. PASMO can also be used in the Suica service areas.
