This is the site where a number of artifacts dating to Kofun period (about 1500 years ago) as well as the early Kofun (about 1600 years ago) and the late Jomon (about 4000 years ago) periods have been discovered. These artifacts include ornaments and clay vessels that are believed to have been used in religious ceremonies. Also on display are restored models of ancient pit dwellings. Nearby is the Shirahatazuka Shiseki Koen (historical park), a cultural property designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. |

The Yamamoto-tei is a rare, semi-Western building built in the late Taisho, early Showa eras at the beginning of the 20th century. A view of the garden, with its own waterfall, man-made hill and pond, can be enjoyed from the house while sipping a cup of powdered green tea or coffee (available for a fee). Japanese-style rooms (with 6, 8, and 10 tatami mats) and a tearoom are also available for rent. (Japanese tea sets are available for free of charge) Applications for the use of the facilities must be made three months ahead. A drawing takes place at Yamamoto-tei on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. (If that day falls on a public holiday, the drawing will be made on the following day). Applications after the drawing date can be made directly at the Yamamoto-tei or Technoplaza Katsushika for processing on a first-come first-served basis. |
