This annual festival is held simultaneously with the fireworks festival on the opposite side of the Arakawa river bank in Toda City. The two festivals combined set off a total of approximately 10,000 fireworks (including about 100 of shakudama* size). The large shakudama fireworks reverberate with a satisfying explosion. Another major attraction are the huge Niagra Fall firework displays along the river bank. *The shakudama is a shell approximately a foot in diameter. |

Jourenji Temple has a prestigious history. It was originally built in Nakayado and in 1591, it was donated land valued at 10 koku by the shogunate. Koku is a unit of rice measure and was indicative of an estate's value and wealth. Construction started in 1971 and the temple was moved to its current location in 1978. It is famous for its many stone statues and cultural artifacts, including a large bronze statue of Buddha known as the Tokyo Daibutsu, erected in 1977, which has been designated a New Tokyo Landmark. The Tokyo Daibutsu stands on the site of the Akatsuka Castle's Ninomaru. It is 13 meters tall and weighs 22 tons. |

Yoritane Chiba changed the name of the temple Hojiji to Shogetsu-in when he made it his family temple. This temple functioned as the headquarters for Shuhan Takashima when he oversaw the first gun training program at Tokumarugahara. Chiba's letter of donation to the temple and a document with the seal of the Tokugawa Shogun are preserved in this temple. |
