The Legacy of Genghis Khan and the Magnificent Mongol Empire

For the first time in Japan on an extensive scale, this special exhibition introduces treasures inherited from the Mongol Empire, which was established by the mysterious leader Genghis Khan and boasted of having the largest territory in the world’s history. Commemorating the 800th year of its establishment, a movie Mongol was recently produced (starring Tadanobu Asano) and was nominated for the 80th Academy Awards as best foreign film. Collaborating with the Inner Mongolia Museum of the People's Republic of China, the exhibition specially features 54 articles registered as China’s first national treasures. The exhibition is composed of three sections, including the time of nomadic tribes prior to Genghis Khan, the empire’s golden period, and its decline stage during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. An audio guide is also available, which is narrated by singer Koji Kikkawa who is known for his knowledge of Chinese history.
